Are You Tired of Living in Fear of Dirty Carpets?

So many of us live in fully carpeted homes, but it turns out that few of us actually know how to care for carpets all that well. We’ve decided to put together a post on carpet cleaning tips, just for those of us who still love that soft welcoming feeling of a warm, carpeted floor. Carpets can make a home welcoming but, without the proper care, they can make a home feel dingy and a little sad. So, let’s talk carpet cleaning tips!

Go Shoe-Free

This one may seem a little obvious, but it’s important to mention. Having a shoe-free home will keep your carpets clean for much longer. You may not think about I all that often, but that carpet is basically fabric on your floor. You should be treating it the same way you treat a couch you love; feet are just fine but keep those dirty shoes off of it. Anything that’s been walking about in the grass, mud, and generally dirt of the outdoors needs to stay off. There’s only so much a vacuum can really do.

Vacuum Often

Speaking of vacuuming, you’ll want a regular cleaning schedule for carpets. The less the grime gets worked in over time, the more of it will come out. You may have noticed that you’re reading a blog by a robot vacuum company. Surprise surprise, we recommend using a Roborock robot vacuum for a daily vacuuming routine that doesn’t take away a minute of your day. While your carpet loves the idea of daily cleaning, we imagine that you don’t. That’s exactly why robot vacuums were invented, because no one should be stuck with the task of cleaning a carpet every day, even if that is what’s best for them.

Try Baking Soda

Baking soda has marvelous cleaning properties and one common (and useful) cleaning pro-tip is to dust your carpet with some before you vacuum. Because Baking Soda is a pure, natural product that is also a food, it is non-toxic, unlike many other household cleaners. It is safe to use around children and pets and is ideal for cleaning your home safely. It works because it’s a mild alkali and can cause dirt and grease to dissolve easily for effective removal.

The Deep Clean

No matter how clean you keep your carpets, you’ll want to do an annual deep clean. We’d recommend renting a carpet cleaner from a local place, they’re quite inexpensive and easy to use once you get the hang of them. Keeping up with this practice every year, along with regular daily cleaning, will keep your carpets looking like new for years to come.

The Spill Kit

Finally, we recommend that you assemble a little spill kit and keep it handy. Almost anything will come out if you catch it right away and use the right cleaning agent to get it out. Here’s our list for your starter kit:

  1. A small bottle of dishwasher detergent; mix a few drops with water for most spills.
  2. Shaving cream is a simple home remedy that works well for more stubborn carpet stains.
  3. Commercial carpet stain remover for the worst stains.
  4. Club soda for wine or beer spills.
  5. A small icepack for chewing gum. It freezes the gum, making it easier to remove.
  6. Hydrogen peroxide for the rare blood stain.
